Democratic Mendacity, Hubris, and Contempt on Display

What a week! The administration, Harry Reid, Kathleen Sebelius, and the democratic members if the House of Representatives have outdone themselves in their display of contempt for the public. They don’t even make a pretense of integrity any more. It seems that Acton was right, and the current administration and its lackeys seem hell-bent on proving him right.

First, the House voted Wednesday (February 26, 2014) on a bill that was designed to prevent the IRS from using arbitrary standards to harass organizations based on their political orientation. The bill, HR 3865, also known as the Stop Targeting of Political Beliefs by the IRS Act of 2014, was a response to the egregious actions by the IRS and their politically appointed heads, like Lois Lerner, to harass and intimidate opposition to the administration.

The bill was introduced by a Republican, and had 66 co-sponsors, not one of whom was a Democrat. There was one amendment, which was introduced by a Democrat, which would have changed the name of the bill to imply that it was for the protection of anonymous donors to political organizations. The amendment failed, however. The House voted 243-176 to pass the bill. Every Republican voted to pass the bill. Every Democrat, except for fourteen, voted against the bill.

Every democrat in the House, save 14, has decided that the IRS should be able to be used as the President’s own hatchet men. This goes hand-in-hand with the ex-mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, who said in 2011, “ I have my own army in the NYPD, which is the seventh biggest army in the world.” Which, aside from being wrong about the size, is certainly a despotic sort of thing to say.

Then there’s the kerfuffle that Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius started this week, when she claimed that she never said anything about 7 million being the metric for the success of Obamacare enrollments. She never heard of that number, didn’t know numbers went that high, said it was the CBO’s number, etc. Jon Lovitz would be proud. Yeah, that’s the ticket, it was the CBO.

But here she is, speaking to reporters last June: “We’re hopeful that 7 million is a realistic target.”

And here she is on Sept. 30, in an interview with NBC News: “I think success looks like at least 7 million people having signed up by the end of March 2014.”

Moreover, on Sept. 5, 2013, Marilyn Tavenner, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, sent Sebelius a memo titled, “Projected Monthly Enrollment Targets for Health Insurance Marketplaces in 2014.” The memo offered an estimate of 7,066,000, drawing both on CBO’s estimate and the experience of the universal health plan in Massachusetts, Medicare Part D “and conversations with employers, issuers and states.”

But Sebelius is sure nobody will remember that she was all about 7 million, until it looked like an impossible number. Has she forgotten that she said these things on TV? No, she just counts on the stupidity of the electorate. Another brazen display of contempt.

Just to make sure Sebelius isn’t lonely, Harry Reid, the serial liar from Nevada weighed in with this:

“Despite all that good news, there’s(sic) plenty of horror stories being told. All of them are untrue, but they’re being told all over America.”

“The leukemia patient whose insurance policy was canceled [and] could die without her medication…. It’s absolutely false. Or the woman whose insurance policy went up $700 a month…the ad is false.

“We heard about the evils of Obamacare, about the lives it’s ruining in Republicans’ stump speeches and in ads paid for by oil magnates, the Koch brothers. But in those tales, turned out to be just that: tales, stories made up from whole cloth, lies distorted by the Republicans to grab headlines or make political advertisements.”

Being accused of lying by Harry Reid is like being accused of anti-semitism by Nazis, or being accused of racism by Senator Robert Byrd. Harry Reid is suggesting that every single negative story about Obamacare is a lie. Not just some, but all of them, lies. Really Harry? Coming from someone with only a theoretical knowledge of truth, I have my doubts about Reid’s assertions.

The common thread running through all three stories is this. The Administration, led by Obama, and the democrats in Congress, have nothing but contempt for you. They lie, and lie, and lie, and think they will not get caught, but that even if they do, they’ll just bluster their way through.
